Indian stock market timings are broken down into three sessions:

Normal sitting (also known as continuous session) – This is India’s primary market share timing that will last from 9.15 am. To 15.30 p.m. Any transactions made during this time follow a bilateral order matching system in which price determination is carried out by means of demand and supply.

The system of bilateral order matching is volatile, inducing several market fluctuations that are ultimately reflected in security prices. The multi-order system for the pre-opening session was designed to manage this uncertainty and was introduced into Indian stock market timings.

Session to pre-open – The session will run from 9.00 a.m. By 9.15 hrs. At this time you can position orders to buy or sell any securities. It can be further broken down into three sessions:

9.00 hr – 9.08 hrs.

Orders for any transaction that be issued during this period of opening of the stock market in India. When actual trading begins, the order entry is given preference, as these orders are initially cleared off. All requests made during this time can be changed or cancelled by necessity, which is advantageous to customers, and no orders may be made during the pre-opening session after this 8 minute duration.

9.08 hr – 9.12 hrs.

This Indian stock market timings division is responsible for assurance price determination. Price matching order is done by corresponding demand and supply prices, respectively, to ensure accurate transactions between investors who want to buy or sell a security. Final price determination at which trading will begin during normal Indian stock market timings is conducted via the multilateral order matching program.

Price matching order plays a key role in deciding the price at which the protection is being transacted during a typical Indian stock market timings session.

However, any order already placed in unavailable during this session benefits from the modification.

9.12 hr – 9.15 hrs.

This time serves as a transition phase between pre-opening and regular timing of Indian stock markets. During this time no further transaction orders can be placed. Also, it already put current bets from 9.08 a.m. – 9.12 hrs. Can’t be revoked, either.

Session post-closure – Closing time for stock markets in India is marked at 3.30 p.m. After this period no exchange occurs. During this time, however, the determination of the closing price is done which has a significant effect on the opening security price of the following day.

Stock market closing time in India can be divided into two parts–

3.30 p.m. – 3.40 p.m

The closing price is determined using a weighted average of stock trading rates beginning at 3 pm. – 3.30 hrs. In a financial market. Weighted average prices of listed securities are considered to determine the closing prices of the benchmark and sector indices such as Nifty, Sensex, S&P Auto, etc.

3.40 p.m. – 4 p.m.

This period is the closing time post stock market when it is possible to place bids for the next day’s trade. Offers placed during this time are confirmed, provided there are adequate buyers and sellers on the market. These transactions are completed at a stipulated price, regardless of changes in market price for opening.

Capital gains can therefore be realized if the opening price exceeds the price of closing by an investor who has already placed their bids. If the closing price surpass the opening share price, bids may be cancelled within the short 9.00 a.m. window. – 9.08 hrs.

The overall operating time on the stock market in India can be demonstrated through the following table:

S. No.   Name  Time

1.         Pre-opening session    9.00 a.m. – 9.15 a.m.

2.         Normal session           9.15 a.m. – 3.30 p.m.
