INTRODUCTION:

The Universal Account Number is a 12-digit number allotted to each and every Employee Provident Fund(EPF) member by Employee Provident Fund Organization which helps him to get complete control of his EPF account, further by minimizing the role of the employer. You and your employer are assigned two different UAN numbers. Once generated, the number remains constant throughout the time the company remains in business, and through the number of your employment years. Even if you change your workplace or field of work the number does not change. Every time when a person switches a job, the EPFO will provide them with a new identification number (ID) and link it to their existing EPFO account (UAN). But for they need to intimate or approach the organisation for this. It can be done by asking the EPFO directly or even can be done by your employer on behalf of you. For a working professional, his PF account plays a very vital role in his savings, earlier days it was a  difficult task to transfer , check balance , etc in your PF account. However with the aid of UAN number, now when you quit a job and start working in a new firm all you have to do is link the new UAN id with your PF account with the help of your employer or EPFO and easily transfer or your withdraw your funds. To obtain your UAN number there are two ways , one look or it in your salary slip and another , you can directly approach your company HR for the same. Still you’re not able to locate or find your UAN number , in that case you have to generate one. All you need are some usual identification documents like Aadhar number, Pan card , PF registered mobile number and PF member id. Open the e-Sewa portal, which is a online platform to access EPF requests and services online . You can check PF balance, details of the past employers and even withdraw your PF amount. In simple words e-Sewa is a one-stop  website for all your PF related queries and services. Once you have your PF number and UAN number, Visit https://www.epfindia.gov.in/site_en/ and then click on our “ Our Services”. Under that select “ For Employees”.

Then click on  “ Member UAN/Online services “ under the services section. With this, you will be able to enter the UAN Portal.

Going further you need to enter your UAN , PF member Id and your registered mobile number. Carefully enter the Captcha code and then click on “get authorization pin button”, which will send the pin to your mobile number. Under the disclaimer tick the “I agree “ checkbox, enter the OTP sent to you on your mobile number and click on “ Validate OTP and activate UAN

Once the UAN activation is done , you will receive a password through which you can access your EPF account.

Various documents required for your UAN Activation are as follows: Aadhar number , Pan card , Bank details / IFSC code and any other identification proof. One can even link his Aadhar with UAN and PF by following a basic step that is , Login to the EPFO Portal/UAN Member Portal, click on “For employees” and then click on ‘UAN Member e-Sewa Portal”.The link to reach the EPFO Portal is : https://unifiedportal.epfindia.gov.in/. Enter UAN and password to login to the portal. Enter the captcha carefully and click on Sign In. Once you enter the portal, select “ Manage” from the title bar and then select “KYC”. Moving to the next screen, under “Add KYC Tab”, enter your bank, PAN, Aadhaar, passport, driving license, election card, ration card, etc details and submit them. Once the details submitted ,you will be able to see them under the “Pending KYC” tab. Your employer will take about 15 days to approve the details provided by you. Hence it is approved, you can see the information under” Approved KYC” tab. 

Another way to go about it is through Offline mode . This can be done via an Aadhaar linking application developed by EPFO where the employee is required to fill the application and provide details of UAN and Aadhaar number. 

Self-attested copies of UAN, PAN and Aadhaar are required to be provided by the employer along with this form. The above-mentioned form and documents have to be submitted at the field offices of EPFO or Common Centre services.  Upon completion of verification, the Aadhaar number will be linked to the EPF account. A message regarding the same will be sent to the employee’s registered mobile number.
